Anaesthetic
We often utilise a general anaesthetic or sedation to enable surgery or other procedures for our patients. Each anaesthetic does carry a small degree of risk but we minimise this risk by dedicating a trained nurse to full time monitoring of every patient under sedation or anaesthetic. As well as this we also use the safest anaesthetics available with the best anaesthetic monitoring equipment including oesophageal thermometer, pulse oximetry, respiratory alert, blood pressure, ECG and capnograph. A patient warmer is used to maintain body temperature throughout each anaesthetic. Each patient is given pain relief appropriate to the procedure and can involve local anaesthetic blocks, non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, strong opioid medication, epidurals and pain relief patches for post operative pain relief. Animals undergoing a general anaesthetic are given intravenous fluids as required throughout the procedure if indicated to help support blood pressure and tissue perfusion at no extra cost. We encourage pre-operative blood testing, especially for animals over 7 years of age, and this is carried out on the premises for fast, accurate results. Rest assured, your pet is safe with us while under anaesthetic.
