Diagnostic Imaging

At Westernport Vet Clinics, we are proud to offer advanced imaging services to help us provide the best care for your pet. Our state-of-the-art digital radiology equipment allows us to obtain high-quality radiographs (X-rays) within minutes. These images are essential for diagnosing a variety of conditions, such as fractures, joint disease, lung and heart issues, and abdominal concerns like gastrointestinal foreign bodies. With clear and detailed radiographs, we can quickly identify and address problems to ensure timely and accurate treatment.
In addition to standard radiographs, we offer dental radiographs, which are crucial in diagnosing underlying dental diseases that may not be visible through a regular oral exam. These detailed images allow us to evaluate the health of your pet's teeth and gums, helping us identify issues such as tooth decay, root infections, or bone loss, which may require treatment.
We also provide ultrasound services, a non-invasive imaging technique that allows us to view internal organs in real-time. Ultrasound is particularly useful for examining areas such as the abdomen, chest, and tendons, enabling us to assess soft tissue structures that may not be visible on X-rays. Cardiac ultrasound can help us to identify a patients stage of mitral valve disease and the need for medication to prolong life. Pregnancy ultrasounds are also available for dogs and cats from as early as 3 weeks of gestation, allowing us to monitor the health of the pregnancy and the development of the puppies or kittens.
For more complex diagnostic needs, we have access to specialist services, including CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans. These advanced imaging techniques offer detailed, three-dimensional views of your pet’s body and are invaluable for further investigation of issues that may not be fully assessed through radiographs or ultrasound. If needed, we can easily refer your pet to these specialists for more in-depth diagnostic work.
With our comprehensive imaging services, we are able to detect a wide range of health conditions quickly and accurately, allowing us to create the most effective treatment plans for your pet's individual needs. Whether it's routine diagnostics, dental assessments, or more advanced imaging, you can trust that your pet is in expert hands at Westernport Vet Clinics.

At our Hastings branch, we are proud to offer full video endoscopy services, providing a minimally invasive approach for diagnosing and treating various conditions in your pet. Endoscopy allows us to closely examine your pet’s nose, mouth, throat, oesophagus, and stomach. This procedure is particularly beneficial for removing foreign objects, such as bones or grass seeds, that may have become lodged in these areas. Additionally, we can take biopsies from the stomach and small intestine to help diagnose gastrointestinal issues, ensuring a quicker and less invasive solution compared to traditional surgery.
Our clinic is also equipped with a bronchoscope, which enables us to visualize the major airways and take samples from the lungs and airways. This is an essential tool for diagnosing respiratory conditions, allowing us to gather critical information without the need for more invasive procedures. These endoscopy services, which previously may have required referral to a specialist or surgical intervention, are now available at our Hastings clinic every weekday. This means quicker access to care and the convenience of receiving advanced treatment at our trusted facility, ensuring your pet receives the best possible care when they need it most.
