General Questions

  • We work by appointment which can be booked online or by phone, to ensure your pet receives timely care, however we will triage emergencies and urgent cases as needed.

  • For new patients please bring any relevant medical records, a vaccination history, a list of current medications, and any questions you may have about your pet’s health. Patient histories from previous clinics can be emailed to info@westernportvet.com.au.
    Cats should be in secure carriers, and dogs should be on a leash.

  • We recommend annual wellness exams for most pets. Senior pets and those with medical conditions may require more frequent visits.

Appointments & Services

  • Our clinic provides general check-ups, unwell animal examinations, vaccinations, skin and ear exams, dental care, surgery, diagnostic testing, and emergency care. We are skilled in most forms of diagnostics including abdominal ultrasound, radiology, in house blood testing and cytology.  We can perform difficult surgeries including intestinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery and soft tissue surgery such as BOAS surgery.

  • For routine vaccinations with no other health issues, 15 minute consultations are allocated. For other issues including illness, skin and ear disease, chronic disease management consultations are 30 minutes. Initial behaviour and acupuncture visits are allocated 1 hour.

  • Yes, we provide emergency care during business hours. If you have an after-hours emergency, please contact ERH Mornington on 5979 9600or AEC Frankston on 9770 5555.

  • Payment for services is required on the day, however financing may be available through Vet Pay and After Pay.  Please pre-arrange this before your visit with the website or app.

Before & After Your Visit

  • Try to keep their routine normal before the visit. Bring a favourite toy or treat, and use a calm, reassuring voice. If anxiety is severe, ask us about pre-visit calming options. We may be able to see your pet outside the clinic, or perform a home visit.

  • We will provide pre-surgical instructions, including fasting requirements. After surgery, we’ll give you detailed aftercare instructions and pain management options.

  • For surgeries or hospital procedures, owners are unable to stay with their pets due to safety protocols. If your pet is anxious, rest assured, we will contact you as soon as they are ready to return home. Your pet’s well-being is our top priority, and we’ll keep you updated throughout the process.

Vaccinations & Preventive Care

  • Core vaccinations for dogs typically include parvovirus, hepatitis and distemper, as well as canine cough. For cats the core vaccinations are panleukopenia (feline parvovirus) and cat flu. We’ll tailor a vaccination schedule to your pet’s lifestyle and risk factors.

  • Yes, we carry a range of preventative treatments. Our team can help you choose the best option for your pet.

Other Questions

  • Boarding is available at many local reputable facilities. There are many great local dog grooming options. We perform cat hygiene clips under sedation, and can perform nail clips on dogs and cats.

  • Yes, we can arrange refills through our clinic, as long as the animal is a patient in our care and has seen one of our vets in the required time period (usually 6 months). Please allow 48hrs for processing.

  • You can call us during business hours, and for non-urgent inquiries you can email us. If it’s an emergency, please call immediately. If out of hours please contact the emergency centres listed above.
